Who this plan is for
This plan is for you if your recent PTE scores are mostly between 50 and 60 and you're aiming for Proficient English. The plan uses the Proficient English minimums that Australia sets for PTE tests taken on or after 7 August 2025 (Listening 58, Reading 59, Writing 69 and Speaking 76), so it also suits anyone who needs a strong score around 65 with high speaking and writing. You already know the test format. This plan is about smooth speaking, careful writing and fewer small errors.
How the plan works
- Start with the quick check. About 35 minutes of reading, listening, writing and speaking. It shows which skill is furthest from its target, so you know where to spend extra time.
- Add your official scores. The dashboard asks for your latest official PTE scores, or your scores from an official Pearson practice test. It compares them with the targets below. Our own practice shows your accuracy on our questions, not a PTE score.
- Five sessions a week, about 20–35 minutes each. Each session has one clear job. Tick it off when you finish; the plan remembers your place on this device.
- Speaking first. Weeks 1 to 3 are all speaking, and weeks 4 to 6 keep a short speaking session. Speaking has the highest minimum, so it gets the most time.
- One lesson a week. Read it on day 1. It explains exactly what to change in that week's tasks, with examples.
- A weekly check at the end of each week, and a full mock test in week 6.
What Proficient English needs
PTE Academic is scored from 10 to 90 for each skill. For tests taken on or after 7 August 2025, the Proficient English minimums are:
| Skill | Minimum |
|---|---|
| Listening | 58 |
| Reading | 59 |
| Writing | 69 |
| Speaking | 76 |
People still search for "PTE 65" because, for tests taken on or before 6 August 2025, Proficient English meant 65 in each skill. On the new test, 65 in every skill would not be enough: Writing and especially Speaking must be higher, while Listening and Reading can be a little lower.
- Speaking (76): smooth, even speech with clear pronunciation in every task: Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence, Describe Image, Retell Lecture, Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation.
- Writing (69): a well-organised essay, one accurate summary sentence, and almost no spelling or grammar slips.
- Listening (58) and Reading (59): precise dictation, careful clicking in tasks where wrong answers lose marks, and strong collocations.
An honest note
We can't tell you your PTE score. Only Pearson's scoring does that, so use an official Pearson practice test or your real result to check progress. Use our practice to find weak tasks and fix habits. Check the exact scores your university, employer or visa needs on the organisation's own website.

Frequently asked questions
Is PTE 65 still Proficient English?
Only for tests taken on or before 6 August 2025. For tests taken on or after 7 August 2025, the Proficient English minimums are Listening 58, Reading 59, Writing 69 and Speaking 76. If you need it for an Australian visa, check the current Home Affairs page before you book.
Why does this plan spend so much time on speaking?
Because the Speaking minimum (76) is the highest of the four, and for most people at this level it's the biggest gap. Fluency and pronunciation also take time to change, so the plan starts with them in week 1 and keeps a short speaking session every week after that.
Will this plan tell me my PTE score?
No. Our practice shows how accurate you are on our questions, not a PTE score. The dashboard asks you to type your latest official PTE scores or scores from an official Pearson practice test, and compares those with the targets.
What if my scores are below 50?
Start with the PTE Competent plan, or the strategy guide for PTE 50, and build the basics first. Then come back to this plan.
