General information, not migration advice. We explain published test information. We can't tell you what you personally need. Requirements change, so always check the official website of the organisation or immigration authority you're applying to, or speak to a registered migration adviser.
Check your scores
How the check works
Home Affairs uses five English levels. Functional English is a single overall score (for example, IELTS 4.5 average or PTE 24 overall). Vocational, Competent, Proficient and Superior English need a minimum score in each of the four skills, with a separate table for each approved test. This tool compares your numbers with the published table for your test (and, for PTE, IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge, your test date) and shows how far you are from each level.
It doesn't know anything about your visa, your circumstances or other evidence you might have. It just compares numbers. For your situation, use the official English language pages or a registered migration agent.
Tables last checked against the Home Affairs website on 12 October 2026.
